Lighting Study

Standard

I’m excited to say that my company is doing in house photos through me for our menu boards. We were sick of not having high resolution photos of our exact product and since i, as an artist, am capable of taking the shots, we produced the money to get an entire lighting rig, and very thriftily thanks to me! So, ill be updating this as we go, I get the camera on Monday and will be taking test shots of things around my house 🙂

SO, what is the reason for this you say? well I believe understanding everything you can is an essential model to build off of when creating fake things! If I can actually set up this lighting to create visually compelling portraits then i feel i can do the same in 3D. Updates with photos on Monday.

I’m a Dribbbler!

Standard

Last month I was finally invited to Dribbble.com , which is a site for designers to show their work and get feed back. It is an invite only website where the community moderates who is invited (with invites that are granted by dribbble team themselves)

I am proud to say I am finally one of them. https://dribbble.com/IanChase , That is my URL as you can tell from that I have been posting, and will continue to post my projects as they come to me. So if there is not any activity here, you can always check out my dribbble page to check out what i’m currently working on.

Global Game Jam

Standard

It seemed so far away when I posted this a while back, but the event happened it felt like a blink of an eye.

Global Game Jam was very inspiring and fun. We got together at eastern and broke into 4 groups. we came up with a game mechanic that we hadn’t really seen before and made a game around it.

with only 48 hours and this being all of the teams first video game we didnt get much done. It was still alot of fun and i will know what to do better next year.

that is our game and i did all the concept work, the backgrounds (which is supposed to be construction paper) and was apart of creating the game mechanics . I plan on making my own games in the future and creating more interesting visuals.

Almost Finished.

So my project for the blizzard art contest is near an end. I am still playing around with the texture, getting it exactly the way I want it, I was thinking of adding blood around his mouth and teeth to make him a bit more interesting. but so far here is what I have.

i am going to Colorize his skin to either be a deeper red, or blue, and i will post the turn around video of him once I complete, and am about to turn him in.

Blending, and we’re Blending, and

Standard

we’re Blending, and we—‘re– done. One of my favorite scenes from Big Bang, when they are heading to a comic con. But Essentially that is what I am doing this very moment as I am hand-painting (in Photoshop) a texture for my character submission for the Blizzard Art Contest.

This is my first dive into hand painting in photo at all. I have been painting in real life since grade school, so I have a small background of being artistic in Traditional sense.

Here is a shot of the chest where I am in the first stages of blending and defining.

I am using a Wacom Bamboo tablet and a brush with pen pressure to be able to do this blending. Let me tell you, I love it and am definitely considering this as one of my independent studies next semester.

I wanted to add that I use to hate Tablets, I bought one 2 years ago to integrate into my Graphic Design degree and never got use to it. After using it now with this painting, I never want to go without a tablet again. I absolutely love it and recommend just taking the time to get used to the tablet if you are in the same boat I was.
