If anyone reading this (if anyone actually does) knows me then they know my fandom of all things geek and nerd culture. Then you would probably be surprised that Sunday was my first comic con. The motor city comic con to be exact and I had a blast. I went with my buddies Brandon and Adam Schreiber, who showed me all the ins and outs of the show.
I watched a panel with the wonderful tom Kenny voice actor for spongeBob squarepants, and he had some very inspirational things to say about getting into industry. After that we walked around a bit and browsed and they went off inline to meet Tom Kenny while I networked the art alley. As I perused the limited talent pool among the others, I found 3 wonderful artists that stuck out to me and inves
ted into them.
The first is J.M. Dragunas who has The Sires of Time. Excellent story with king Arthur and time traveling knights. His Artwork is superb and extremely detailed, we spoke and exchanged info and he would like to see about commissioning me to create his black knight in 3d!
The next is Dave Swartz, with his Atlas series. Very well drawn and thought out, the questions of existence and reality bring up the super powers. He’s a creative director gone comic book artist and more power to him.
Lastly we have Jeremy A. Bastian with “Cursed Pirate Girl” his detail and line work are unparalleled and I bought the book on the spot. He then drew and signed an intricate autograph that I will cherish. My favorite feature of the book is that is is for all ages.
I made a plethora of contacts and I’m super inspired from the event.
